ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that the NFL has voided the multiyear contract extension the Saints announced for head coach Sean Payton, supposedly making the suspended coach a free agent after this season.

?Within the past year, the multiyear contract extension the Saints announced for Sean Payton in September 2011 was voided by the NFL, making the suspended head coach a free agent after this season and casting questions on how long he will remain in New Orleans, according to league sources,? Schefter writes.

?Payton is expected to become the NFL's most sought-after head coach after this season and there already is speculation in league circles that he could wind up returning to Dallas, where he worked as the assistant head coach from 2003 to 2005, during which time the Dallas Cowboys brought in quarterback Tony Romo, who attended the same college, Eastern Illinois, as Payton.?

Feds: NYC terror sting suspect, after considering Stock Exchange, picks harder target: The Fed

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A Bangladeshi man snared in an FBI terror sting considered targeting a high-ranking government official and the New York Stock Exchange before authorities say he raised the bar further by picking one of New York City's most fortified sites: The Federal Reserve.

Authorities grabbed 21-year-old Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis ? armed with a cellphone he believed was rigged as a detonator ? on Wednesday after he made several attempts to blow up a fake 1,000-pound bomb inside a vehicle parked next to the Federal Reserve in lower Manhattan, according to a criminal complaint.

In a September meeting with an undercover agent posing as a fellow jihadist, Nafis explained he chose the Federal Reserve "for operational reasons," according to a criminal complaint. Nafis also indicated he knew that choice would "cause a large number of civilian casualties, including women and children," the complaint said.

The plot was phoney, but authorities alleged that Nafis' admiration of Osama bin Laden and aspirations for martyrdom were not.

The bank in New York, located at 33 Liberty St., is one of 12 branches around the United States that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, make up the Federal Reserve System that serves as the central bank of the United States. It sets interest rates.

Dozens of governments and central banks store a portion of their gold reserves in high-security vaults deep beneath the building. In recent years, it held 216 million troy ounces of gold, or more than a fifth of all global monetary gold reserves.

As a result, the Federal Reserve is one of the most fortified buildings in the city, smack in the middle of a massive security effort headed by the New York Police Department, where a network of thousands of private and police cameras watch for suspicious activity.

Authorities emphasized that the plot never posed an actual risk. There was no allegation that Nafis actually received training or direction from a real terrorist group.

However, they claimed the case demonstrated the value of using sting operations to neutralize young extremists eager to harm Americans.

"Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure," said Mary Galligan, acting head of the FBI's New York office. "The defendant faces appropriately severe consequences."

Prosecutors say Nafis travelled to the U.S. on a student visa in January to carry out an attack. In July, he contacted a confidential informant, telling him he wanted to form a terror cell and that he admired "Sheikh 'O'" ? a reference to bin Laden, the criminal complaint said.

The defendant later sought assurances from an undercover agent posing as an al-Qaida contact that the terrorist group would support the operation.

"The thing that I want to ... ask you about is that, the thing I'm doing, it's under al-Qaida?" he was recorded saying during a meeting in bugged hotel room in the Queens section of the city, according to the complaint.

In a September meeting in the same hotel room, Nafis "confirmed he was ready to kill himself during the course of the attack, but indicated he wanted to return to Bangladesh to see his family one last time to set his affairs in order," the complaint said.

Before trying to carry out the alleged terrorism plot, Nafis went to a warehouse to help assemble the bomb using inert material, according to a criminal complaint. He also told the undercover agent he was influenced by radical U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.

He also asked an undercover agent to videotape him saying, "We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom," the complaint said.

The federal case was the latest where a terrorism plot against the city turned out to be a sting operation.

Four men were convicted in 2009 in a plot to bomb synagogues and shoot down military planes with missiles ? a case that began after an FBI informant was assigned to infiltrate a mosque in Newburgh, about 70 miles north of New York City. The federal judge hearing the case said she was not proud of the government's role in nurturing the plot.

In 2004, a Pakistani immigrant was arrested and convicted for a scheme to blow up the subway station at Herald Square in midtown Manhattan. His lawyers argued that their client had been set up by a police informant who showed him pictures of Iraq abuse to get him involved in an attack against civilians.

A-Rod, Swisher benched by Yankees

(AP) ? Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher were benched by the Yankees for Game 3 of the AL championship series at Detroit on Tuesday night, the latest attempt by New York to reverse a deep hitting slump that threatens to knock New York out of the postseason.

"We talked about the dimensions here, and we talked about, fly-ball pitcher today, and we've had some guys struggling, so we decided to make some changes," manager Joe Girardi said.

It was the second time A-Rod has been benched this postseason. He's hitting .130 (3 for 23) with no RBIs in the playoffs, including 0 for 18 with 12 strikeouts against right-handers. Detroit right-hander Justin Verlander, last year's AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner, took the mound Tuesday against New York, trying to help the Tigers to a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Rodriguez didn't talk to reporters as we he walked onto the field for pregame warmups. He was smiling, joking and laughing with teammates as he stretched.

Swisher has struggled about as much as Rodriguez, hitting .154 (4 for 26) this postseason. He is 1 for 34 with runners in scoring position in his postseason career.

Eric Chavez, 0 for 11 in the playoffs, started at third base in place of Rodriguez. Brett Gardner led off and played left field, his first start since April 17.

"We have a lot of guys in there working toward one common goal and that's to come back and beat the Tigers and get to the World Series," Gardner said. "We're all pulling for each other."

Gardner has been recovering from a right elbow injury that required surgery in July.

"Gardy, we believe, is one of the best leadoff guys in the game when he's healthy and has had a chance to play," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He's healthy now and he's going to get a chance to play. With all respect, he can't give us any less than we've gotten."

Rodriguez's benching came following a New York Post report, citing an unidentified witness, that said A-Rod flirted with two attractive female fans near the New York dugout after he was pulled late in Game 1 against Detroit. Girardi would not comment on that report and said the decision to bench A-Rod was strictly performance related.

"Part of it has been his struggles against right-handers in the playoffs," Girardi said.

Swisher was unable to catch Delmon Young's double in the 12th inning of Game 1, a 6-4 Detroit win, saying he lost the ball in the lights. Swisher, who is eligible for free agency, complained after Game 2 about hearing from angry home fans in the right-field corner.

"I wouldn't say desperate. We are down 2-0 but there was an extended period of time when opportunities were given and now we're going to give them to some other people who are legitimate major league guys who can contribute," Cashman said. "It's not like we're dropping off the face of the earth."

Pirates

Pirates

We?re happy to offer up something completely different today. Storming out of New York like a tornado that?s sucked up all manner of sharp and rusty objects, Pirates may well be the only band in a genre of their own invention: fully improvisational hardcore. Established as the side project of several established players, the band brings formidable musicianship to an experiment in sound. It approximates traditional hardcore, with all its quirks, but it?s completely spontaneous. None of the members have any idea where they?re going, and that goes for the lyrics, too.

We can?t be totally sure if these guys are part joke ? if nothing else, they seem to have a Zappa-esque sensibility to their presentation. Guitarist ?Dr. Sin-a-Min,? drummer Billy delGiudice (aka ?Number 7?) and vocalist Ethan Fixell (aka ?The Jackal?) claim to be the world?s only improvisational hardcore band. They say they went into the studio this summer and ?five hours later had written, recorded and mixed their debut album. Every riff, drum fill and lyric on the 14-song masterpiece was improvised on the spot.?

?When we left the studio, we knew we had a masterpiece on our hands,? Pirates tell Diffuser.fm. ?The only listeners thus far unable to appreciate its devastating power have included little girls, small animals and grown men NOT possessing enormous members. Our fully improvised, rage-filled music is the only in the world capable of auditory homicide.? Grab it below ? if you dare.

Every Dog Needs Training | My Dog's Hair Salon - Scottsdale Pet ...

Training does not happen in the majority of dog-owning households. Sometimes I ask why, and people tell me that they think their pets don?t need training because it is only for competition dogs. I find this sad, for everyone?s sake ? and if you haven?t trained a dog, you don?t know what a rewarding experience you are missing.

The most important reason to train your dog is that it gives him something to do.It also makes it easier to deal with in difficult situations ie vet, grooming, any public place. Sounds simple enough, right? Dogs are social animals who like to learn, and if they aren?t given guidance in how to handle themselves or to relieve daily boredom, they will come up with their own doggy versions ? most of which we probably won?t like, such as chewing up the couch or barking at visitors.
